anyway attack on titan is nazi propaganda and i dont trust ppl who like it, and as a Jew™ and general decent person i have the fucking right to say i hate snk and fans of it on my own blog

also hetalia (i dont feel the need to link a source for that one since it is literally called axis powers hetalia and one of the main characters is a personification of nazi germany)

hi there, i hope its okay that i add onto this! i am a korean jew and i think its important to state that attack on titan also glorifies japans history of oppressing korea. the source emma provided also goes further into detail about this if anyone wants to know more

tysm for this post because snk makes me so uncomfortable, and not a lot of people realize what it is

Attack on Titan’s author believes in eugenics and thinks Korean people aren’t even human; I can’t ever understand why someone would want to support the work of a guy like this

the post linked in the first part was deleted – here’s an archived version of it

Can non Jews reblog? Because this is kinda a Big Deal

OP didn’t answer (at least not on this version of the thread), but I would say yes, gentiles absolutely should reblog. Lack of knowledge is what allows this shit to grow unchecked.

LGBT BRAZILIANS TAKE CARE WITH DATING APPS AND GRINDR, THEY WILL BE USED TO TARGET VICTIMS PLEASE SIGNAL BOOST

ALSO!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Whatsapp (the most used messaging app in Brazil), if you receive a contact from a “juridical support group for LGBT+ people who are being harassed” called “REAJA”, DO NOT INTERACT!!!!!!! Apparently, this is not a real support group but it’s a trap that are targeting LGBT+ people to physically harm them. They people behind “REAJA” have very malicious intentions.

Be careful and stay safe!!!!!!!

Brazil did it. Brazil elected a neo-facist, racist, homophobic asshole to govern our country and the consequences about it it’s already happening.

In less than 24h since he’s been elected it’s been hell of fucking earth in Brazil. Countless people have been reported dead all over the country, mainly LGBTQ+. Countless. People parading around cities with their fucking guns (it’s pretty much illegal in Brazil but this asshole is trying to change our law to allow guns, he’s even encouraging parents to give their kids a gun ????), shooting it into the sky in sign of victory. Did you know that one of those bullets killed a child? Yeah. One killed an old lady too. There’s been report of them invading a indigenous village and attacked them. They’ve been saying they are going to kill every single “slut”, “fag”, “dyke”, poor people, Nordestino (people that lives in Nordeste, a region in Brazil, that is mainly against this government), black and homeless people. Aka in the last 24h Brazil felt what is like to live in the fucking Purge.

There’s already people recruiting “good citizens” to erradicate Brazil of “fags and dykes, because now that their master’s been elected, there’s nothing protecting them, they’re not even people.” I kid you not. They’ve created group chats in popular apps to talk about mass shooting the LGBTQ+ community in Brazil. Yesterday there were people waiting outside a queer club to beat anyone that went outside.

Our police enforcement already started to invade college campuses and schools to destroy history books because they think our teachers are indoctrinating us in favor of communism. These history books tells about our 1964 military dictatorship (something we’re very afraid of happening again and we’re pretty sure is gonna happen with this demon in charge). They are trying to say that we choose to elect a military government back then, when in fact was a fucking coup. They’re also trying to get rid of philosophy classes and social studies because they think it only teach us to become communists as well. Basically, they’re all very ignorant and violents and they’re trying to fuck with the only fucking hope we have to our future: education.

You won’t probably hear many of the things I’m saying because I’ve been reading it on social media, and everything we (the opposition) say on social media is basically reported as “fake news” by his voters. But yeah, I can’t count how many videos I’ve saw today of women getting beaten and threatened. Of how many stories I’ve read of people walking the streets and cars pullover poiting guns at them and threaten them. Of people posting pictures of their “victory bbq” with guns spread in their tables close to their fucking meat. Of how many times I’ve cried since his pronouncement, thinking about how I’ve never felt so unsafe in my entire life. Of how I’ll have to be cautious about everything from now on, if I don’t want to become another casualty.

If you don’t believe what I’m saying, read about what foreign news are talking about us:

I do not care if you give two shits about politics or what’s happening in the world right now, just please take some time out of your day to really look at this.

I am so sorry Brazil.

This is terrifying. Absolutely terrifying. Oh Brazil!

Privileged folk ridiculing safe spaces is so funny as if men don’t refuse to enter “girly” stores and have “man caves”, as if white people don’t avoid black neighbourhoods, as if straight people don’t ostracise gay people from their social circles, like who’s really the one with the safe spaces lol

that’s the thing about power dynamics. Your boss has no problem entering your work space randomly, while you can’t enter his office as freely. Same mechanic is happening here, only that when you refuse to let your boss (privileged people) enter your space (safe space), they feel offended because they think they’re entitled to entering your space all the time.

OH MY GOD

I might have mentioned this before, but developments I am genuinely glad of in fandom over the last couple of decades:

  • Way less bashing of canon female love interests in order to hook up two male characters – some of that is the advent of the OT3 as a solution to love triangles, but it’s just as common to have the canon couple break up amicably and realistically, or simply tweak things so that they were never a couple, but still like and respect one another as friends
  • The rise of the reader insert fic, which I’m convinced has taken the pressure off to create an OC for people who really just want to write self-insert fantasy, thereby letting them do what they actually want and (hopefully) helping to lessen the stigma around OCs for those who really want to create OCs
  • Linked to that, a decrease in the amount that the accusation “Mary Sue!” gets flung around, and intelligent criticism of how gendered the whole “Mary Sue” concept has ended up
  • Less pressure to “explain” how a character could end up with a character of the same gender in fic, when they’ve always been paired with other-gender characters in canon
  • A decline in the popularity of extensively mocking/dragging individual fics for bad or inexpert writing (such as through writing MSTs in response where the canon characters read and reacted to the fic), which, looking back, was a pretty shitty thing to do to writers just starting out
  • Much less likelihood of getting virulently homophobic comments on any given slashfic (”My poor [favourite character] isn’t GAY, how dare you!”)
  • And, of course, the shining glory that is AO3, an all-inclusive single archive that’s actually run and controlled by fans, meaning no hours spent paging through webrings to find one author who has four fics of that pairing you love and then reading them over and over for months, and no chance of waking up tomorrow to find all your fic purged because some internet company got a pissy letter

I mean, don’t get me wrong, fandom today is no picnic; it’s not like homophobia or sexism have gone away entirely (and to an extent they’ve gone underground, which complicates things), and of course we have the new puritanical backlash, which can sometimes be even more complex to challenge.  But fandom back in the day was far from perfect, as well, and some of the ways things have changed are a real breath of fresh air.

Yeah.  The first… decade I was in fandom, the Mary Sue dead horse came floating back up to be beaten again every 18-24 months.  I do not miss those days.

When I explain cultural misappropriation to children, I use the example of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

It’s effective because especially for children, who don’t have enough historical context to understand much of the concept, you can still fully grasp the idea.

There was nothing wrong with Jack seeing the beauty and differences in Christmas town, it’s when he tried to take what is unique about Christmas town away from those it originally belonged to without understanding the full context of Christmas things is when everything went wrong.

When Jack tries to get the folk of Halloween town to make Christmas gifts for children, etc., children understand that the Halloween town folk do not have the full context for the objects they are making, and they are able to see that the direct repercussions and consequences are very harmful.

what i like about this is the implication that if jack had taken the time to understand christmas town, bringing christmas to halloween town would not have been harmful. that’s how it works, folks. cultural sharing is GOOD, it’s only misappropriation when it’s done in ignorance and disrespect.

There’s an interesting level here in that Jack tried to understand Christmas town. He could see the magic while he was there, and he did try to explain it that way to citizens of Halloween town.  But they weren’t interested in the kind of life he was describing, so he started “rebranding” Christmas so that it was not like Christmas but was like Halloween. The people of Halloween town, never having actually encountered Christmas, have no way of knowing that what they’re being told about Christmas and “Sandy Claws” is inaccurate. Jack also tried to study Christmas and its culture, though he couldn’t quite get it; eventually, he literally decides to take it for himself, even as he knows it’s not really for him.  He started out feeling sad the others in Halloween town didn’t ‘get it,’ but he then decided it’s not important to fully ‘get it’ but instead to have it.

So it’s not just accidentally removing things form their context; he has intentionally disregard the meaning of the rituals he purports to be recreating, making them more fun for the recreaters but not like what the rituals are supposed to be and without the related significance.

This is the best way to conceptualize the wrong way to share culture I have ever seen and I think I finally get where people are coming from when they talk about “cultural appropriation.”

This is an EXCELLENT explanation through example!

This is PERFECT. I’m using this in my classroom.

anyway. if you’re friends with a minor and you’re an adult, that’s fine. you’re allowed to be friends with minors. you’re allowed to talk about minors in situations where you aren’t imparting your Superior Adult Experiences or whatever the fuck!

god you guys must really hate minors because it isn’t acceptable to claim that adults and minors can’t be friends without something untoward happening or somebody being abused, it isn’t acceptable to posit neutral or friendly interactions between people on either side of an arbitrary line as inherently predatory due to the nature of the participants, because guess what by talking like all adults are dangerous all the time you’re just making it harder for minors to access help that they need.

so fuck you, really.

just remembered that I had more to say so here goes:

I’m autistic/adhd (self-dxed) and I have a really, really hard time relating to people my own age, online and offline.

it’s not their fault. it’s not that their interests are stupid and shallow. but it’s exhausting for me to exist in this bubble of like, 5 friends total, none of whom will prioritize me or make an effort understand me and share my interests. I know, because I did it for years. for years, I tried to share fandom and the music I liked and the books and topics I was interested in (read: hyperfixating on) with people my own age. and it never ended well for me. I was always alone, and maybe it was my fault for being nerdy and annoying and a know-it-all, but I deserve connection, goddammit. I deserve to be taken seriously.

and then I started to make friends online, in a space where most of the people I talked to were adults (completely by accident, I assure you: the person running the place was aware I was a minor, so was everybody else, and it was a fandom space) and for the first time in my life connection wasn’t fleeting or accidental or illusory. it was real, and these people genuinely liked me as a person (a first for me) and they wanted to hear what I had to say and they liked me enough to correct me when I fucked up and still respect my autonomy as an individual. it saved my life, literally.

maybe you’re ND and this isn’t how it worked for you. I’m glad. you deserve friends your own age and I regret all the time that I barely have any. but this is how it was for me.

how fucking messed up is it, anyway, to say that the only time an adult should interact with a minor outside of a structured setting is when they’re advising said minor? seriously? because you’re basically saying that adults and minors can’t ever have anything in common, that there’s something wrong with minors that feel more connected to adults than other minors (even if they have legit reasons like sexuality/neurodivergence/interests/bullying) and that’s gross as fuck. you’re hurting minors, literally, by saying that.

which is why I’ll always be an advocate for spaces where minors and adults can interact with each other safely. it saved me. I know other people with similar experiences. and it’s really fucked up that we’re trying to destroy something good and helpful because of some shitty-ass half-baked reasons that don’t stand up to the slightest scrutiny.

if you don’t want minors to be abused, write about that. write about recognising online abuse, emotional abuse, mental abuse. write about the symptoms of gaslighting. teach people like they’re people, and not just victims-in-waiting.

stop treating adults abusing minors as inevitable. it’s scaremongering garbage. and start putting in some real fucking work.
